Angling: Kennedy hooks up a superb salmon
With winter-like conditions continuing to prevail, it's hard to believe that we are into the month of May.

At Lough Melvin this week the conditions remained variable and temperatures remained low with the wind in the east. There has been little if any fly fishing for trout and any fish caught have been spring salmon taken on the troll.
Locals John Parkinson and Melvin Schofield did the business, each accounting for salmon of 8.5 lbs while another local Stephen Kennedy accounted for a 9-pounder along the Garrison shore.
Dessie McHugh had a fine salmon of 10 lbs from the Rossinver Fishery.
On the neighbouring Erne Estuary fishing has been very quiet with cold temperatures and east winds making fishing uncomfortable. But for those who ventured out the effort was worthwhile. Two local anglers accounted for 25 sea trout between them while fishing with sandeels.
On the Bundrowes River the water levels have been good and this has resulted in some reasonable fishing throughout the week. Tony Finlay had one salmon of 8.5 lbs on a size eight cascade fly from the Mill Pool and Doyle Kennedy landed one of 9 lbs on a shrimp from the Soft Hole.
Columba Fitzpatrick had one of 8.5 lbs from the Tinker's Hole on a worm and Francie Grimley landed a salmon of 8 lbs from The Meadow using a shrimp. Best salmon of the week was a 10-pounder by Connor O'Connor from the Blackwater.
