North Down V 1 South Antrim VI 0
Saturday, 19 April 2008
Age and experience helped North Down to victory in the Strabane Cup Final although they had to withstand some late pressure from South Antrim.
The Comber team started very strongly and were justly rewarded after ten minutes when Jamie McKee scored a goal.
South Antrim, whose oldest player was a 17-year-old, took their time making an impact on the game but once they did the result could have gone either way.
Antrim had much the better of the exchanges towards the close and could well have forced extra time but failed to take advantage of two penalty corners. On each occasion the ball was cleared off the line so North Down survived.
