Wardell conjures up Coagh win as Ards rest for final
Coagh United 1 Ards ?
Saturday, April 26, 2008
Ards, who play in the Intermediate Cup Final on Thursday night, left five of
their first team players out for this meaningless match at Hagan Park.
Coagh took the lead after a period of sustained pressure when James Wardell
turned on the spot to give Mooney no chance after 11 minutes.
Ards tried hard to reply with Justin McBride missing the best chance on 30
minutes but he shot well-wide with only Pollock to beat.
With Ards continuing to pressure Gary Sharrott hit the post on the stroke of
half-time.
Ards dominated most of the second-half with Coagh defending in numbers.
Justin McBride, Garry Sharrott and Danny Mulholland were guilty of missing
clear chances. Coagh had two chances near the end to wrap this game up.
Firstly substitute Aaron Willis missed an open goal while Aaron Thornton saw
his spot-kick saved by Mooney. And then in the end Coagh just did enough to
take all the points.
